Planning a tour of universities

Planning a tour of universities, whether as a student with the family, as part of a group or as a counselor is all about variety.  It would make no sense to tour a group of universities that were all very similar in scale and scope.  It is important to visit as wide a range of types of university as possible within your personal timeframe.  So visiting some large, medium and small sized universities, some which are urban, suburban and rural, those with specialist areas of focus, generalist ones, those with different styles of housing, those with catered and non-catered residences, those where sports/arts/theatre plays a more important role in the student life.

If you are planning a tour to a totally different country to your home then it would also be important to consider a tour that took in different parts of that country – for example in the UK it is very important, in my opinion, that students look beyond London.  As a British city London is not indicative of a UK experience.  It is a very international city for sure and has a lot going on, but there are equally exciting cities beyond the M25!  Brighton, Liverpool, Sheffield to name just a few.  All have great universities and are wonderful student cities.
